winter (105k image)
Well, it's been so long since I posted a lot has happened! My youngest daughter had a baby in August. She is truly the cutest baby in the universe! Next, we were spared by the super storm, Sandy. We did lose two huge very old trees though. Thankfully, the one that could have crushed the house fell into the field. The other did as well. I have never been so tense during a storm. Because our house is on a hill, the wind was powerfully scary! I feel as though I shouldn't complain at all since we just had numerous uprooted trees. The people in New York and New Jersey were hit the hardest! Finally, my puppy, Tommy, has turned into a teenage dog. He is still adorable and fun, but he has a little attitude! We are in training to correct all that! I do hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! My goal is to post more in the new year!

Well, I do have a good excuse for not posting in a while. My husband and I got a new puppy! His name is Tommy. My girls both have dogs and they warned me. "Mom, this will be very demanding at first. You will have to get up with the puppy at night. It will be a real lifestyle change!" I thought to myself, "Oh you foolish girls (with no children yet). I have had THREE children! How hard can ONE puppy be!"
Well, I must say, I am exhausted. We got a Golden Retriever. He is absolutely adorable, but at this point he gets up about every two hours. On the plus side, I am so glad I have not remodeled my kitchen yet. If he has an accident on the tile floor, I can easily clean it up! The picture of the real Tommy is the small picture on the top of the side bar. Isn't he darling?

gltree (218k image)This spring has been such a delight mainly because it has lasted for so long. I am enjoying all the spring flowers, greenery, and blooming trees and bushes. I especially love two of my neighbor's trees. It seems as though they should have a faces and carry hobbits around! I have a wonderful view of these trees from my upstairs sunroom. Sadly, the other day a tree service came and cut down one of them (it looked fine to me, but what do I know!) and trimmed off the branches that gave the other tree such character. Since I am trying to look on the bright side of things, I can now see many more trees from my sunroom because that big oak tree is gone. That will remain my happy thought!

I am loving the weather we're having this winter, mainly because it hasn't seemed like winter at all! But there is a problem. My daffodils are blooming! While I love seeing them, it seems as though they are a little confused. If they could talk, I would imagine them saying, "Am I early? Is this a bad time?" I hope not! I am sure enjoying it.

Franz-Richard-Unterberger (33k image) This past week my husband and I went to Ft. Lauderdale for a few days. Although we have had a very mild winter, it was fun to pretend it was summer for awhile! We had never been to Ft. Lauderdale so it was interesting seeing all the canals and the yachts. I must admit the yachts totally fascinated me. I wondered where everyone went on those luxurious floating houses. One evening while we were down there we went to a place called The Charter House for dinner, it was right on the canal. As we sat outside enjoying the warm weather, a huge yacht pulled up. I watched with interest as nine or so people emerged. We questioned our hostess about this. She said, "Well they have to go someplace on those yachts!" Wow.

detail (41k image)I just love these pictures by Lewis Miller! I have posted pictures done by him before. I love this man’s artwork. It is so fresh and unique. Last week I discovered an entire book that has been published of his work. I ordered it immediately! It is entitled Lewis Miller Sketches and Chronicles 1796-1882. The Historical Society of York County, York, Pennsylvania, publishes it. If you enjoy pictorial journals then this book is a must have! I found it on Amazon. Sadly, some people have discovered my work on the internet and they are distributing it illegally. When you work very hard at creating designs you hope people will enjoy, it is disturbing when they are stolen. I am not quite sure what I can do about it. With all the wonderful things the internet has to offer, there are also some bad things as well….kind of like life!

tablescene (63k image)
I hope all of you are enjoying season two of Downton Abbey as much as I am. I look forward to it every Sunday! If you haven't been able to watch the first two episodes, I think you access the series online. I just had to put up the picture of this dinner scene. Isn't it wonderful? That type of table setting will never look dated. It has a timeless look. I love it! The British have such a way with detail. I could watch Downton Abbey for the amazing clothes, the wonderful interior scenes, and the landscape alone! It does have a good story line though. So pour yourself a glass of Port, sit in front of the fire and enjoy Downton Abbey with me.

iStock_000003224449XSmall (203k image)Happy New Year, a little late, I realize. This year has been another extensive travel year for my husband and me. We have only been home two weeks (at the most) per month for almost the last year. I think things are beginning to calm down now with the new year. I thought I would suggest that if you want to travel somewhere, Sweden would be a wonderful choice! We were there this past October for two weeks. Stockholm is a fabulous city. If you decide to go there stay in the old city, called Gamla Stan. While everyone warned us that it would be expensive, we found it to be less expensive than England and about equal with Italy. It's truly lovely. Another part of Sweden that we loved was Lund. It's a charming old college town. I must say, I love the old Swedish style. The way they use their needlework and decorate their houses is so appealing. If you are looking for someplace to travel, go to Sweden!
