Lesson 4

More important than flowers

While this lesson on valuable and exotic flowers provides the unusual facts about flower hunters and what people did to acquire these flowers, I wanted to take a different turn in the projects for the younger kids. Since Easter is upon us and we have been faced with these very unusual circumstances this past month, I wanted to add to the flower lesson some important truths they can teach us.

When you see a tree in winter, it looks dead! All you see are brown branches, no leaves, and no sign of life. Then what happens? Spring comes and all of a sudden you see buds on the trees – new life! It’s the same with flowers. There are no flowers in winter. When spring comes, new life appears.

The scriptures of the Old Testament also speaks of the budding of new flowers in the desert! Why? I think that they are talking about more than just flowers! New life points us to a bigger reality. The reality of the One that “makes all things new.” He is the one that has conquered sin and conquered death so that through Him we no longer have to fear death. In these trying days, that is a comfort and a truth that provides real hope!

1 Corinthians 15:55

“O death where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Blessings to you all this unusual Easter season.
